Jerry's August 6th Update

We had a great day today!

While in therapy, Jerry actually walked. It was just a couple of steps, but they were very important steps in his rehab. He was also able to sit at a table in the cafeteria and eat with the rest of the patients. Jerry later went outside with us and sat in the sun for about 45 minutes. During this time we (Maryann, Angie and myself) grabbed a guitar and sang some songs for him. He was tapping his fingers and moving his head. He was basking in every minute of it! His speech was pretty clear today. We left for a while and Shastina and Pam spent some time with him. When we got back, it was time for him to eat dinner. Boo fed him and we all sat in him room and talked. The others went home and I decided to stay and watch the Giants game with him. During this time we talked about many things. One of the things we talked about were old classic cars. He spoke of his 1965 Ford Ranchero with a 4 speed automatic and a small block 289. We continued to talk and I read him your blog post for the day. He was grateful to those of you who sent messages. It really means so much to him. He also wanted me to let you know that he doesn't want you to get the wrong impression and think he's sitting at some country club. He's in great pain and endures that pain throughout the day in hopes to one day come home! It's important for those of you who said you're coming up to visit to keep those commitments, he's counting on it and so are we. As it was getting late and I was about to go home, he looked at me and wouldn't say anything as he knew I was about to leave. I looked over at him and he was wide awake and did not want me to leave, so I stayed a little longer. Together we can make this work. Please do your part! A note, a visit, a card, a prayer all are accepted gratefully!

Thanks and good night!

Jon

Good Morning:
I am up at the lookout today. Cool, finally, and somewhat hazy.
Absolutely fabulous reports about your progress!! I know it is difficult, however keep it up; the rewards are worth the pain!! The services for Vicki's nephew are later this week, so we will be out of touch Thurs & Friday, but will get back to you following that.
I have made all the travel arrangements for the 21st-24th. We will be flying again as my schedule precludes allowing us the time to drive. Keep up the good work, I will check in later today.
Love you, Big Brother.

Good afternoon from Miami Lookout.
Not much happening here. Talked with Cindy, Scott, & Kim last night and they all send their love and prayers. Scott and his family are returning from San Diego this evening and I'm sure once he finds he can send you a note via this medium, that you will hear from him directly.
Haven't seen anything today about you running the facility marathon, but I expect it to occur soon.
Enjoy you meals, chew slowly, fart loudly.
See you soon,
don

Good evening Grandpa,
Your progress just staggers me. I knew you were strong, but we're just going to have to invent a new word just to describe your strength and drive. We are still going to come up this week on Friday. It's hard to wait, I just want to get in that car now. I wish you a restful evening and I love you.

Hello there Jerry.....Forest's friend Heather here. :)

I wanted to write and let you know that my family: Jayson, Jaycee, Griffin and myself all have you in our thoughts. I think of you everyday and wonder what milestones you will hit each day. I read the blog everyday and was happy to hear that your dogs were able to go visit you. I know how much your dogs mean to you! That was one thing we have always connected on Jerry, our dogs.

I wish you well and I know you struggle with the pain everyday and for that I find you an inspiration.

You and your family are always in our thoughts!! Hang in there and give a couple of pats to those pups for me ;)

Heather
